Choosing the perfect month for your family photo session can feel like a big decision. There really is no WRONG month to book... unless you want an outdoor newborn session in February. I offer indoor sessions for those!
Truth is, every season brings its own beauty—and its own challenges! Pennsylvania has some gorgeous landscapes... and can also throw a pretty mean rain or snowstorm at ya some times. It's unpredictable!
Whether you’re dreaming of blooming flowers, golden summer light, or cooler breezes, I’m breaking down the best and worst features of each month between February and August to help you pick the perfect time for your photo session here in Lebanon county, PA.
❄️February: Winter’s Last Hurrah
✅ Best Features:
- Crisp, soft winter light—perfect for dreamy, moody photos.
- Cozy outfits with layers, scarves, and stylish winter vibes.
- Less crowded locations since most people are hibernating.
- Bare trees and honey-brown landscapes (with the right outfit you will REALLY POP in that environment).
❌ Challenges:
- It’s cold—which can mean red noses and chilly kiddos.
- Unpredictable weather—snow, rain, or just plain dreary skies--although snow makes for some VERY pretty pictures!
⭐ Best for: Families who love cozy vibes, soft lighting, and don’t mind bundling up!

🌸 March: The Tease of Spring
✅ Best Features:
- First signs of spring—buds on trees, early blooms, and fresh colors.
- Warmer days start to sneak in, making outdoor sessions more comfortable.
- Great lighting without the harsh summer sun.
❌ Challenges:
- Weather is wildly unpredictable—one day warm, the next freezing.
- Trees and grass may still look a bit drab depending on the location.
- Wind can be a problem (hello, hair flying everywhere!).
- Can be muddy in some spots because of rain and melting snow.
⭐ Best for: Families who want a transition into spring look and don’t mind taking a weather gamble!

🌷 April: Spring in Full Bloom
✅ Best Features:
- Some spring flowers, budding trees, and lush greenery everywhere!
- Warmer but not-too-hot temperatures make for comfortable sessions.
- Soft, flattering natural light before summer sun takes over.
❌ Challenges:
- Spring showers can lead to reschedules (rain, rain, go away!).
- Allergy season is here—sniffles and itchy eyes can be an issue.
- Some locations may be crowded with people enjoying the outdoors.
- Wildflowers are not available yet.
⭐ Best for: Families who love bright colors, fresh spring air, and dreamy floral backdrops!

☀️ May: Peak Spring Perfection
✅ Best Features:
- Everything is greening up--more flowers are available and trees are full and beautiful
- Golden sunsets and longer daylight hours for stunning evening sessions.
- Warm but not yet summer-hot, making outdoor shoots pleasant.
- Last month for high school seniors to get photos completed before graduation
❌ Challenges:
- Busy schedules—end-of-school activities, graduations, and sports can make it tough to find time.
- Allergies are still going strong.
- Certain locations may be booked up due to weddings and events.
⭐ Best for: Families who want the perfect spring glow, beautiful greenery, and warm (but not too hot) weather!

🌞 June: Summer Begins!
✅ Best Features:
- Longer daylight hours give more time for golden-hour sessions.
- The wildflowers have arrived!
- Kids are out of school, making scheduling easier.
❌ Challenges:
- Heat and humidity can be a struggle (especially for little ones!).
- Midday sun can be harsh, so evening sessions are best.
- Bring your bug spray! Mosquitoes and bugs love summer too.
⭐ Best for: Families who love bright, summery vibes, sunset sessions, and relaxed, warm-weather fun!

🌻 July: Full-On Summer Mode
✅ Best Features:
- Pennsylvania is straight up GORGEOUS this time of year.
- Rich, vibrant colors—blue skies, green grass, and golden sunsets.
- Fun, casual outfits—sundresses, shorts, and light, breezy clothes.
- Wildflowers are at their peak right now. So beautiful!
❌ Challenges:
- The heat is real! Sweaty faces and sticky clothes aren’t ideal.

- Evening sessions will start late due to long summer days.
⭐ Best for: Families who love fun summer looks, glowy photos, and don’t mind the heat!

🍉 August: Late Summer Glow
✅ Best Features:
- Golden-hour light is extra dreamy this time of year.
- Late summer fields and sunflowers can make for stunning backdrops.
- Warm but slightly cooler evenings compared to July.
❌ Challenges:
- Still hot and humid, especially earlier in the month.
- Back-to-school schedules can make planning tricky.
