Rooted and Free School Portraits Dashboard
In case we haven't met...
Hi there, I'm Naomi. Taking timeless photos of kids is something of a passion of mine.
Over the years, I've learned a few things about getting a great photo for children. I've learned that asking kids to smile is a surefire way of getting that frozen deer-in-the-headlights look. I've learned that they need a little bit of silly to bring out the light in their eyes, and they need a little bit of posing as well. This helps them feel cared for and guided throughout the process.
I've also learned that each child responds in his or her own way, and that's ok! Shy smiles and wondering eyes can be just as beautiful as wide grins and belly laughs.
I hope that you love your photos... but more than that, I hope you can join me in celebrating your child for exactly who they are--shy smiles, silly faces, or curious expressions.

How to LOOK YOUR BEST
In keeping with the nature of Rooted and Free (see what I did there? 😆), we will be photographing outside. So if your kiddo wears green or brown, they may end up blending in with the background too much.
Colors that work especially well are jewel tones and medium-toned clothing. Pastels and darker clothing don't shine quite as much against a natural background. Patterns on the shirt are just fine!
Dress your child in a nice outfit that they like with no holes or stains. I do realize it may become dirty due to playing outside, but let's start with a clean one, shall we?
Avoid logos, hats, and neon colors at all costs.
Accessories like necklaces, bows, bracelets, or even favorite things like walking sticks (especially for the younger students!) are great and will infuse personality into your photos.
Make sure they've done their hair before they leave for school. We will have assistants on the lookout for messed up hair, boogers on noses, and leftover breakfast or drool on faces, but it's always good to have a final check at home!
Your gallery will include a variety of images
The goal is to get a mixture of different kinds of emotions and poses from each child.
All images are offered in both color and black and white, so you can pick exactly what you like to print or download.
You will have 14 days to order. and I mean it! 🙃
Online ordering will be available for a period of 14 days.
During that time, you will have LOTS of reminders. Since I pay for the gallery space, I cannot keep albums open indefinitely or fulfill requests to keep re-opening galleries for free. As you may imagine, this causes a lot of extra administration work on my part and I will have to charge you a $25 fee to re-open your gallery... which obviously, I'd rather not do.
So please please pleeeease get all your ordering and your downloading completed within that 14 day period.
Please and thank you!
FYI--There is no charge to the school or the parent for having their child's portrait taken, ensuring that you only pay for what you want to have in your home.
